One should have researched himself for many years before...
« on: February 16, 2017, 03:02:04 AM »
This is a little excerpt from an interview with the very important Greek actor/director Aris Retsos.
I find his answer, regarding his many years of research about ancient Greek tragedies, ingenious.

Question:[...]After your many years of research and engagement (above 25 years) with the ancient drama how important you think is the role...[...] etc.etc.

Aris Retsos: I would like to make a clarification about the 25 years of my research you are mentioning. I wanted to say that no one can be engaged every day for 25 years with something. There will be pause periods and search periods and all this not in a poetic and artistic sphere but in the real life. I started of course as an amateur with awesome enthusiasm and passion but as one understands young ones can have a big ego. So at some point you can not proceed further. So there were times when I stopped; but it is important, and I would like to underline this, when you stop and not do anything, what you don't do.

Therefore I can say that the most useful part didn't came from my work as much as from the periods I didn't do anything and those I didn't do helped me to be able to do what I did later. There is great importance in the "dead" intervals. In the dead, empty time, no one can hide behind something. While listening to your "involvement over 25 years' I could hide behind it, consider it a shield and claim to be an expert. When not doing anything, it is important how you experience this "not doing". That you remain close to what you're looking for or you become a different person. If someone knew this part of many people's paths, one could understand very well the results of the work of their research or their goal. One should investigate many years his own life, in order to research something else seriously.

I believe it is healthy for the members here to receive such a message. Many of ud may tend to be surrounded by numbers on every side. Like a piano player practicing for hours daily. In between we ought to know ourselves and become united with ourselves and the whole wide universe in accordance with som ancient Greek, ancien Indian or other tradition!  You may not find them at the Casino!

On this note, my days of "extreme posting" are drawing to a close. I know some of you will celebrate the good news but not so fast. I will check in from time to time.

I will use my time away to reflect on what I have learnt on the forum and maybe come back with a nice gift package for all of you, even for the naysayers.

I'm still around for a few days yet.
