Wise quotes
« on: March 28, 2018, 06:54:37 PM »
Charlie Munger:

“It is remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent.”

“Invert, always invert: Turn a situation or problem upside down. Look at it backward. What happens if all our plans go wrong? Where don’t we want to go, and how do you get there? Instead of looking for success, make a list of how to fail instead – through sloth, envy, resentment, self-pity, entitlement, all the mental habits of self-defeat. Avoid these qualities and you will succeed. Tell me where I’m going to die so I don’t go there.”

"There are a lot of very eminent people who have many advantages and they've got one little flaw or one bit of bad luck and they're mired in misery all their lives."

The roulette table pays nobody
 except him that keeps it.
 Nevertheless a passion
 for gaming is common,
 though a passion
for keeping roulette tables is unknown.

The Horse Racing Flat Racing will soon start in the uk so I started to brush up on it.
I started with a little booklet by Van Der Weil . A Dutchman badly wounded in the Second World War and who spent a long time in rehab in the uk . He decided to live in the UK and researched betting on horse racing.

He maintained that a gambler needs to examine HIMSELF  and the first step is to aquire TEMPERAMENT. Temperament being defined as “ manner of thinking- behaving - or re-acting characteristic of an particular individual”
He goes on .
“The temperament of a successful punter demands that he sees things as they are and to evaluate everything with cold , unemotional logic. There is no room for impulsiveness.,no room for fads and fancies, no room for high elation with success or sickening gut feelings when things go wrong .
Every thought and every move must be positive resisting the Immense power of the negative force.”

I am inclined  to agree  with Van Der Wheil
