What's different about this forum and others
« on: March 06, 2018, 04:34:33 PM »
I don't visit many forums.
The ones I do visit, are mostly programming forums, like Stackoverflow or Simplemachines. My experiences with programming forums has helped me in this one in various aspects. Btw, they are very "solution focused". I wish we could do the same, but roulette is a very complex problem.

Over there, the old members are something like wise, calm teachers. Here, we have really senior members, with thousands of posts and they never grow old (or mature  8) ). It's like they are reading each other's opinion for the first time or something. This is funny. It keeps our forum, fresh and lively, but there is also more testosterone than needed.

I don't know how it is with other kind of forums, like sports or hobby or science or gossip forums.
Are they more serious, more boring, more friendly, more mature, more helpful?
Anyone visiting other types of forums often?

Are there any lessons we should learn from them?

Every forum has its own culture which is determined by the collective consciousness of the users; the majority of the users controls the culture.

If I could add a signature to every post it would be the solution to a successful forum:

Be the change you want to see.

If we make a post that doesn't fit that rule, then we are making the forum worse, whether it is our intention to do so or not.

This will always be the end result >> Most (not all) members will play their own way REGARDLESS of any other members/posts. Pity but as I have said before....I lose nothing, I dont really care. The other boards?

Pretty much the same.....GF, RF, BS, everyone knows more than the next guy. Very little talk about, going to a B&M casino, no progressions or triggers. VERY FEW threads regarding this style of play.

Pity, but again.....I lose nothing.

Reyth: Your words on collective consciousness ring a bell. I used to be in a group of long term followers of Maharishi, who talked much about collective consciousness; and the effects of performing  scientifically validated meditation techniques together could be felt intensely.

"There is an ocean of vast proportion
and she flows within ourselves" (Donovan).

Another kind of consciousness seemed to dominate the Casino, I visited some days ago.
Prostitutes, you know.
