I heard from a gambler, saying he was doing well. "I double my bankroll every third attempt, and lose only half the other sessions".

Hmmm,

If my bankroll is 100 and lose half of it twice and double it once then i lose 50x2 and win 100, which means in total I'm still with 100.
So he probably means he is not losing.

Perhaps he steals from the table when the dealer isn't looking !

Count with percent has some issues, when a businessman (probably out of business now) bought for 100 and sold for 200 but gave 50% cut off, as he had 100%  mark up he could give half of it(50%).

Hmmm,

If my bankroll is 100 and lose half of it twice and double it once then i lose 50x2 and win 100, which means in total I'm still with 100.
So he probably means he is not losing.
