##### Forum feature suggestion - math notation
« on: July 26, 2015, 07:14:49 AM »
Kav,

There's an easy way to add math to html so I don't see why it shouldn't work in a forum. Just include this in the "head" section of the html doc (or whatever the equivalent is for the forum software).

Code: [Select]
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://cdn.mathjax.org/mathjax/latest/MathJax.js?config=AM_HTMLorMML-full"></script>

It's easy to use, there's a tutorial here:

http://www.wjagray.co.uk/maths/ASCIIMathTutorial.html

The math should be enclosed by backticks  ( ).

Here's an example of a complete html page with math. Just copy and paste into a text editor and save as "file.html", then open in a browser.

Code: [Select]
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<title>MathJax AsciiMath Test Page</title>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://cdn.mathjax.org/mathjax/latest/MathJax.js?config=AM_HTMLorMML-full"></script>
<body>

<p>When a != 0, there are two solutions to ax^2 + bx + c = 0 and
they are</p>
<p style="text-align:center">
x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2-4ac))/(2a) .`
</p>

</body>
</html>

I think this would be a nice little feature for the forum, even though many don't think roulette has anything to do with math, LOL.

If one wants to win, roulette should always be looked at from a mathematical point of view.  The key to success is applying math properly because some people only want to look at 1/2 of the math picture.

Reyth,

Well said, and I couldn't agree more. :-)

Thank you very much for the suggestion and pointers Mike.
This is a great idea. We will try to implement it in the near future.
Btw, did you notice that the WOO forum is a mess now, with disturbing ads?

Yeah it's a shame. I suppose that's what happens when you sell your site to a casino bonus affiliate network.

By the way, if you need more details on setting up the math notation, go here: https://www.mathjax.org/

The "asciimath" option is the easiest to use. You shouldn't need to install anything if you use their content delivery network which just means using the script tag I posted above.
