Hi Shadowman and Scepticus,
I think you are both right. Gambling is gambling. I find it humorous just because it is the status of the bankers and businessmen, it is suppose to be different. Many of us here in the United States have our retirements set up in this and basically we are paying companies to gamble our retirement everyday. Many businesses that Americans work for have companies that do this for them. They have penalties for removing your money early. When you go to collect your money, you then have to pay fees on top of that in addition to being taxed 30% of what you take out before the age of 65.
I personally trust myself with my own money, than someone else. Think about it, when we play roulette our tax is what I call the house's edge, 2.7%. It is reflected already in the payout. Otherwise, we would get paid 37 to 1 instead of 36 to 1 on numbers. The payout in 1 dozen should be 2.08 to 1, instead of being paid 2 to 1 because you are actually betting against the other 25 numbers which includes 0, not 24. Same with 2 dozen . It makes ME lay 2 to 1 odds that 24 numbers are going to be 13 numbers which include 0, not 12 numbers. Same goes with columns as well.
A well educated roulette player can do a lot more with his own money than any investing firm or corporation would do at the end of the day. I have seen corporations take between fees and taxes almost half of what someone who was paying into their retirement over 30 years. That is hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees and taxes. When they go to collect, only half of what they earned was available. Everything else went to the government and the firm. That is so wrong.
I believe all of us here have the power to make profit for ourselves and I think we need to keep sharing these ideas with each other because the powers that be do not want us to be in a position to have money.
Each of us has a reason why we play the game. Some enjoy for entertainment purposes. Some like it as a profitable hobby. Some make it a living. Regardless of each of our goals, I think all of us bring a unique perspective on the game. When we combine these perspectives we look at the game in a totally different light. That is why I think the forum is perfect way to exchange ideas and strategies from around the world.
