Unlucky trip to a casino.
« on: July 18, 2016, 11:39:42 AM »

I went July 6 to Lithuania capital Vilnius. The destination was to visit a dental clinic. Here in Sweden is not a pain in the mouth but in the wallet.
At the same time I would visit some of the casinos available in Vilnius. The first evening, I visited the Olympic Casino, there are slot machines and one roulette table, minimum 0.5 Euro inside. Bought the 400 0.5, and played most double streets. Got a profit of 125 Euro for a stroke of luck and parlay on a DS. American roulette table European Wheel loss on zero and EC.

But unfortunately on the way home to the hotel, I was knocked down and robbed. Broke several bones in the foot and two broken bones in my right leg.

An operation was done during the night at the hospital, and I have now arrived safely home, but can not yet walk without crutches.

The teeth were fixed, at the dentist, even the excluded by the criminals.

I know I had bad luck, Vilnius is not more dangerous than any other city, it can happen anywhere.

I had hoped to report from several of Vilnius casinos

Jesper, sorry to hear that. Hope you make a quick recovery. At least you made some chips to contribute to the dental bill.

I'm surprised you are so lenient in your judgement!
I've heard others accusing and complaining for less than what happened to you...!

Jesper,

Thank for the interesting report.
I wish you a speedy recovery.

Now you raise an interesting issue: why not more robbers rob gamblers and casinos.
IMO casinos and their clients are as juicy targets as banks. In truth I would expect more robberies to happen to casinos and casino players (before and after their visits).
Maybe casinos have some sort of protection from criminals?
I have heard about gambler robberies in former east block countries, like Bulgaria, but this is mostly anecdotal.

I lost my cellphone, and my driving license. Near 400 Euro. I used my insurance to get assistance on my flight home.  To lose the debit/credit card and the cellphone is enough to get in serious problem today. The passport was in hotel safe.

I could transfer funds to the dental clinic, and they support some cash, to solve the worst.

BENBROTT
BROTTSLINGER!
I hope that you are able to find this funny and that you are able to smile.
Some months ago an apparantly poor woman fooled me in Germany.
I discovered that she had rubbed me.
The worst was not my lost items,
but the feelings later  :( :o
Fortunately I too had my passport in hotel safe.
I too wish you all well.

Sorry to hear this.  Is there any chance you were clocked inside the casino and got on your way back to your hotel?

I do not know. I remember the face of  the man who hit me in the head, but I can not recall it from any at the casino. It was a few visitors at the time, and only four playing roulette. I lost my consciousness a while, and waked up with many around me. I was very near my hotel when they (probably more than one) attacked,

Sad story Jesper.

This is why i never  enter a casino on my own, I always take some friends along. firstly for my own moneymanagemt. When things go wrong they pull me off the table, when they see me lose my composure. but secondly its also for safety reasons. you never know whats gonna happen when you get out, as kav has stated we are easy targets at some point of view. but when you are in a group you wont get attacked that easy.

Ofcourse i learned them some basic stuff so they can play along also, mostly on Bj tho. another reason i dont play in my home town that often is because its not that safe at night. i'm lucky to have some different casino nearby, so i rather take a half our drive, just to be more at ease of where i'm playing.

This never happens in Las Vegas because the security and police are plentiful and always on the lookout for crime.  Perhaps more importantly, the penalty for these types of crimes is  a very long jail sentence without parole.

And that's one of the main reasons Vegas is the premier casino destination in the world.

Well, I don't know about Vegas but I can speak about a smaller town in the USA, namely Gardena, CA.  I personally witnessed an organized GANG of robbers operating out of a nearby hotel there (back in the '90s).

Gosh Jesper I am so sorry that happened to you.

If you weren't clocked in the casino then surely your hotel was under surveillance by these thugs and they pegged you as a foreigner.

Yes the police force said they struggle hard to jail the criminals, which destroy much, as every victim to the criminals, cost the tourist business a lot.  They have long sentence for  robbery.
